CANTON, Ohio – Rocky River registered impressive performances at a major postseason prep event on Saturday. Competing alongside 89 other high school programs, the Pirates placed 12th (boys) and 14th
(girls) in the Northeast Classic Swimming & Diving Invitational. [results]
Aidan Morris placed third in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle and seventh in the 50 free. The Rocky River boys’ efforts were also highlighted by a pair of relays earning top-15 finishes. The 200 free relay placed eighth, and the 400 free relay earned 12th.
The Double-R boys scored 60 team points and were bested by
only 11 other teams after placing 27th in the same meet a year ago.
Highlight swims for the River girls included the 400 free
relay quartet carding seventh and Peyton Spearry logging a ninth-place finish
in the 100 backstroke. Gianna Miller chimed in with a 13th-place
finish in the 100 free. Ella Russell took 16th in the 200 individual
medley, and Morgan Schuld touched in with a 16th-place finish in the
500 free.
The Pirate girls garnered 63 points, a total good for 14th
place in a crowded field full of talented foes.
The finals of Saturday’s meet were held at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
