November 24, 2020
Dear RRCSD Parents and Guardians,
I have made the decision to pause the RRCSD Hybrid (Yellow) instructional model for the week of November 30 - December 4, 2020. During this week, we will implement the Closed (Red) instructional model. Activities and athletics will continue with practices, but there will be no competitions during this week. At this time, our plan is for RRCSD to reopen in the Hybrid (Yellow) instructional model on December 7, 2020.
School buildings will be open November 30 - December 4, 2020, during normal school hours to pick-up instructional materials if needed.
The Closed (Red) schedule for each school can be found below. On Monday, November 30, students should log in to Zoom for instruction at the time noted on these schedules.
During remote online learning the district will continue to offer:
- Mental health resources available here.
- Lunch order/pick up available here
- Technology services available here.
In the Reopening Schools Return to Green Plan plan that I shared with the Board of Education and RR community on November 12, 2020, I indicated that I would look to the following data when making decisions about our instructional model:
- RRCSD COVID-19 data/trends
- RRCSD staff and student attendance
- CCBH Local 44116 COVID-19 data/trends
- CCBH Positivity Rate
- CCBH New Cases
Data points that were considered:
- In September and October, RRCSD reported 4 COVID-19 cases, all of which were staff.
- Since November 1, RRCSD has reported 8 staff and 12 student COVID-19 cases.
- Between September 4 and November 13, the number of reported COVID-19 cases in the 44116 zip code went from 228 to 310. This is an increase of 82 reported COVID-19 cases over 11 weeks.
- Between November 13 and 20, the number of reported COVID-19 cases in the 44116 zip code went from 310 to 384, an increase of 74 reported COVID-19 cases in one week.
- Between September 4 and November 13, the number of reported COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County went from 11,224 to 16,736. This is an increase of 5,512 reported COVID-19 cases over 11 weeks.
- Between November 13 and 20, the number of reported COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County went from 16,736 to 19,926. This is an increase of 3,190 reported COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County in 1 week.
- On November 23, The Ohio Department of Health issued an update that included both the highest number of cases (11,885) and a record number of hospitalizations (282) our state has seen in a 24-hour period.
- In this same November 23 update, it was noted that Ohio Zone 1, in which RR finds itself, is experiencing a sharp increase in caregivers becoming ill with COVID-19.
We encourage everyone to share in slowing down the spread of this virus by wearing a mask, washing your hands and maintaining social distance. I ask for your continued support and understanding during these challenging times as RRCSD strives to protect the health, safety and well-being of students, staff and the community.
I wish you and your family a safe and healthy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Michael G. Shoaf
