Track & Field squads dominate in lid-lifter

PARMA, Ohio -- Rocky River's Track & Field programs -- both the boys and girls -- opened the 2021 season in winning style on Wednesday. The Pirates traveled to Byers Field in Parma and returned with a couple of Great Lakes Conference victories against the Normandy Invaders. [results]

The River boys (1-0, 1-0 GLC) won 13-of-16 events in scoring a 108-16 win over the Invaders. Chase DeClerck was a 10-point scorer for the visitors. DeClerck swept the the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. Both of those events featured 1-2-3 finishes for Rocky River. The Pirates logged eight such events in the dual-meet conquest,

The Pirate girls (1-0, 1-0) took first place in 13-of-15 events. Sarah Mazzei carded a win in the 200-meter dash while also running the first leg of two winning relays (4x100, 4x200).

The Double-R went a combined 8-for-8 in the relay races.

Rocky River is scheduled to continue its season at the Avon Lake Invitational on Saturday.
