Swashbuckling swims net Wagar win for Pirates

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Pirates turned back the Warriors in a Friday night Great Lakes Conference splash clash at Rocky River Pool. The Maroon & White prevailed, 150-22, in the boys' competition and 135-40 in the girls'. With the twin wins in the latest renewal of the Battle for Wagar Road, both Rocky River squads are now 7-1 on the season.

Rocky River won a combined 23-of-24 events on the evening, with the boys going 12-of-12 and the girls going 11-of-12.

On the boys' side, River swept the top three places in eight events. Michael Esdon (winner of 200-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley, member of one winning relay) and Braden Devorace (winner of 50 free and 100 backstroke, member of one winning relay) registered big performances for the Pirates.

The River girls swept four events on the night. Kate Tlapa (first place: 50 free, 100 butterfly) and Ella Russell (first place: 500 free, 100 back) logged big nights for the Maroon & White. Both won twice and were in on two winning relays.
