Highlights from 23rd Annual Basketball Challenge Cup

Once again the RRHS gym was recently overrun by rats. Very cute, extremely loud rats of the 2-legged variety. Friday, March 21 was the annual Community Challenge Basketball Challenge Cup, and the Gym Rats boasted the most colorful cheering section in town.

The Basketball Challenge Cup consists of two games involving staff, faculty and various community leaders. The first game was between the High School Hoopsters and the Community Challengers with the Community Challengers taking home the trophy. The second game was between the Middle School Maniacs and the Goldwood/Kensington Gym Rats. Once again, the Gym Rats took home the coveted trophy.

This year proceeds from the admission and raffle ticket purchases added up to over $6000.00 raised for Recovery Resources’ Community Challenge. This money goes to support a variety of programs that align with the goal to prevent the use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by Cleveland’s West Shore youth with community programs that promote healthy life choices.

The half-time intermission events are equally exciting! The first half-time featured an exciting show by the RRHS River’s Edge Choir. The second half-time show featured the amazing RRHS Drum Line. The National Anthem was sung by members of the RRMS Choir. Intermission was a performance by Riverview Martial Arts.

Many thanks to the following sponsors: The Dance Center; Riverview Martial Arts; Rocky River Student Activity Boosters; Gloria Hardington – Howard Hanna Realty.

Also, this event would not be possible without the support of countless volunteers and donations provided by individuals, schools and local businesses.
