Pirates fall in NOLL battle at Avon Lake
RR Boys Lacrosse
AVON LAKE, Ohio -- The Pirates were held to just nine shots on goal in an 8-3 loss at Avon Lake Tuesday. River put only two on frame in the second half, and the Shoremen managed 6-of-their-8 goals after halftime in the Northern Ohio Lacrosse League conquest at Avon Lake Memorial Field.

Rocky River (4-5, 3-3 NOLL) got first-quarter goals from Tyler Fortune and Mac Scott but was then held off the scoreboard for nearly 31 minutes of clock time before Fortune tallied a second goal in the fourth.

The host Shoremen broke free from a 2-2 tie at halftime with three unanswered goals in the third period. In the fourth, Avon Lake clamped down on its lead with one early score and two endgame, final-minute nails in the coffin.

Kevin Graney scored four of Avon Lake's eight goals. The Shoremen won 10-of-14 faceoffs and committed just nine turnovers. They held the Pirates to their fewest shots on frame since April 24 (eight vs. Columbus Watterson).

The Pirates' loss marked their third in a row. This most recent setback sends the Double-R into a layoff before its next game. River's next contest is slated for April 23 (home vs. Columbus Watterson).
