ELYRIA, Ohio -- Rocky River's Cross Country teams qualified for regional competition with their performances at Saturday's DI Northeast Ohio district meet at Lorain County Community College. [results:

The River boys needed a top-8 placement to advance; they finished sixth in a field of 24 teams. Luke Dorenkott paced the Pirate effort with an 18th-place finish in a field of 177 runners. Greg Ganor (22nd), Majid Abuaun (41st), Grant Preto (42nd), and Henry Lange (57th).
The Pirate girls needed a top-9 to move on; they placed fourth in a field of 22 teams. Samantha Coleman clocked a sixth-place finish when she crossed the wire in 19:23.4. River's other four scoring runners were Brianna Chaves (18th), Katie Stirm (29th), Carolyn Wanosik (32nd), and Jane Rathbun (44th).
Both Double-R teams now move on to the Youngstown Regional Tournament which will be held Oct. 30 at Boardman High School.
