The annual Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) annual conference and banquet was held on Friday, March 24, 2017. Each year, the Pirate Press submits entries to the Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) state contest. This year, although the staff wasn’t able to attend the banquet, they were successful in bringing home a number of awards.
The Pirate Press was awarded 20 accolades in a number of categories. Juniors Makayla Sheehan and Jamie Spallino earned and Excellent rating in the Alternative Copy category, while sophomore Maddy Smith earned an Excellent rating as well in the Review category.
The following staff members (and 2016 RRHS graduates) were awarded one or more honorable mentions: Avery Barnes (2), Kristin Berchak (2), Seanna Gonzalez, Ian Herrmann (2), Kaitlin Martin, Emily Nugent (’16), Angela Pujolas, Jacquelyn Pappadakes (2), Clara Sandu (’16), Makayla Sheehan (2), Jamie Spallino (2), Payton Szymczak, and Maeve Walsh.
The staff of the 2016-2017 Pirate Press is more than pleased with the results of the contest and is thankful for the ongoing support of RRHS and the Rocky River community.
