Four RRCSD Teachers in Top 100 Ohio RESA Scores

Rocky River is proud to announce that four of its teachers were recognized at the Columbus Statehouse on October 12, 2016 for scoring in the top 100 of their class on the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA). Gina Boguslawski (High School Science), Ericka Ghazoul (High School Intervention Specialist), Allison Paetz, (High School and Kensington Vocal Music) and Kelly Riolo (Goldwood grade 2) were among the 300 distinguished teachers who earned the top 100 scores on the RESA in each of the past 3 years. State Superintendent Paolo DeMaria, acclaimed educator and author Charlotte Danielson, and legislators provided congratulatory remarks, and the teachers enjoyed an evening of drinks, hors d’oeuvres and music at the Statehouse.

Today in Ohio, when a teacher candidate graduates from college or university, he or she no longer receives a professional teaching license. Rather, the candidate receives a 4-year Resident Educator license, and enters into four years of residency. Near the end of this residency, each resident educator takes the RESA, or Resident Educator Summative Assessment. The RESA was first administered in Ohio during the 2013-2014 school year. Since then, 2,500-3,500 resident educators have taken the assessment annually.

“To have four teachers score among the top 100 in their RESA class speaks volumes,” said Elizabeth Anderson, Assistant Superintendent. “I believe it not only highlights these teachers, their abilities, and ultimately, their positive effect on students, but also confirms a successful screening and hiring protocol. We are so proud of Gina, Ericka, Allison and Kelly on this accomplishment as well as the work they do every day.”
