They’re creepy and they’re kooky/mysterious and spooky…
You know the song, and this weekend you can pay a call on the Addams Family when the Rocky River High School Drama Department presents The Addams Family Musical.
The musical is based on the classic television series, which in turn is based on Charles Addams’ drawings. The story follows the “altogether ooky” family as they meet and entertain daughter Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
The Rocky River High School production involves 33 actors, 21 musicians, and 15 crew members, all of whom had heard of the Addams in some way or another, according to director Jennifer Garver. “Everybody knew the family from the start,” she explains, “but their familiarity with the family varied—some grew up with the movies from the nineties, some knew the 1960s TV series, and some knew the family from the musical that opened on Broadway in 2010.”
The students came to embody the family members, and many more brought the family’s ancestors to life—literally. “The ensemble of the cast is comprised of dead Addams family ancestors, spanning across all eras of history,” Mrs. Garver reveals. Audiences will have to wait to see the ancestors, who are gorgeously costumed by Martha Taylor, and whose appearance is a closely guarded secret reserved for opening night.
In addition to Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Garver (who also teaches English at the high school), other faculty and staff involved in the performance include Kirk Taylor as orchestra conductor, Allison Paetz as vocal director, Mike Sandy as technical director, and Natalie Seryak as the choreographer, and Becky Taylor as program designer.
So get a witch’s shawl on/a broomstick you can crawl on/we’re gonna pay a call on/The Addams Family!

Tickets are $8 for Adults, $6 for Students and free for Senior Citizens and Children 5 and under.
