The Pirates improved to 5-5 on the year after a 2-1 week. Tyler Scott led the attack with another stellar perforrmance on the mound, improving to 3-0. Tyler also chipped in 4 hits to help pace the offense. With wins over Firelands and North Ridgeville, the boys started the WSC season at 2-0. A showdown with unbeaten Avon certainly provided an interesting prelude to what assures to be an interesting second half of the season. Avon and Rocky River battled through 4 innings, but it was the Eagles who pulled away in the end, dropping the Pirates to 2-1 in the WSC and 5-5 overall.
This past week the Rocky River Junior Varsity baseball team opened West Shore Conference play with a tough loss at home against Firelands. After falling behind 7-0 in the first inning the Pirates battled back the entire game before losing 10-8. Greg Lasher had 3 hits for the Pirates and Alex Chamberlin pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. On Wednesday the JV team beat North Ridgeville 16-8. Alex Chamberlin picked up the win for the Pirates in relief. Bobbie Nuendorfer led the way offensively with 3 hits and 5 runs batted in. Bobbie hit a 3 run homer in the 1st inning for the Pirates. Jason Koberg added a solo home run and Jake Nicholson added 2 hits, 3 walks, 3 runs and 2 runs batted in. On Thursday the junior varsity team beat a tough Avon team 10-4. Greg Lasher pitched a complete game striking out 11 to pick up the win. Jon Smith went 4 for 4 at the plate and AJ Snyder knocked in 3 runs. The junior varsity Pirates are now 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the West Shore Conference.
During the week of April 12th the boys freshman team went 2-1.
They started the week by beating Firelands 12-5. Jason Koberg took the mound and earned the victory, while adding 2 hits. Matt Kadlec led the hitting with 3 hits. Tristan Smith, and Austin Kelly also added 2 hits each.
On Thursday the boys lost 11-1 to a very strong Avon team. The team only mustered 3 total hits. One each from Pat O'Brien, Jason Koberg and Keelan Boettcher.
They ended the week with an 18-4 win against North Ridgeville. Eight different starters collected hits, including 4 hits from Jake Nicholson and 3 hits from Austin Kelly.
