4-24
Varsity:
The Varsity Baseball Team went 2-1 in a bitter sweet week. The Pirates started out on a high note with a tough 4-3 win over always competitive Midview. Behind a gritty pitching performance by Senior Tyler Scott, the boys came up with some timely hitting by Senior Greg Soltes, Junior Killian Hollo, & Sophomore Justin Seffernick.

Next the boys battled undefeated Vermilion in WSC showdown for control of the lead. Unfortunately for the Pirates, they missed the big hits they got early in the week and ran afoul of the Sailors' buzzsaw.  The Pirates are still in the hunt, but need to take care of business the second half of the conference season.

Our ballclub ended on a positive note with a win over archrival Bay. It was a good win over a tough team and improved the boys record to 4-2 in the WSC and 7-6 overall.  Tyler Stern put in a nice showing on the mound while Greg Soltes continued to pace the offense.

The Demons are at home this week against St. Ignatius on Tuesday. Then hit the road for a 5 game road trip versus Firelands, North Ridgeville, Fairview and Avon Lake (2).

JV:

This past week the Rocky River junior varsity baseball team won 3 games and lost 1. The week started with an 8-3 loss at Midview. Greg Lasher and Max Barrow combined for 5 hits in the loss. The team rebounded Wednesday with a 12-0 win over Vermilion. Greg Lasher pitched a complete game shutout striking out 4 to earn the victory. J.J. Keogh knocked in 3 runs to lead the offense. On Thursday the JV team won another conference game 14-4 against Bay. Sean McDermott picked up the win for the Pirates. Alex Chamberlin added 2 innings of scoreless relief. Sean and Alex combined to strikeout 9 Rockets in 6 innings. At the plate, Greg Lasher and Jon Smith each had 3 RBI’s. The week ended with a 9-4 victory under the lights at Garfield Heights Friday evening. Justin Seffernick pitched 4 strong innings to pick up the win. Justin only allowed 1 unearned run in the game. Ryan Connelly and Bobbie Neundorfer pitched well for the Pirates in relief to preserve the win. Nearly everyone contributed on offense for the Pirates as 8 different players scored runs in the game. Jon Smith and Sean McDermott each drove in 2 runs for the Pirates. After winning 5 of the last 6 games the junior varsity team is now 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the West Shore Conference.

Frosh:

During the week of 04/19/10 the Freshman went 1-2 against three league opponents.

On Monday, the team lost in 10 innings 24-20 against Midview.  The game went back and forth and the kids never gave up.  After giving up 12 runs in the 10th, they came back strong scoring 8 of there own.

On Thursday the boys traveled to Bay Village and lost 7-4.  They ran into a very effective pitcher from Bay Village who kept us off balance all day.  Brendan Palker led the offense with 2 hits.  Keelan Boechter pitched strong only giving up 2 earned runs in 5 innings.

Friday night featured a rare, but spectacular pitchers duel against Vermillion.  The boys won 1-0 behind the strong pitching of Matt Kadlec.  He went all 7 innings and struck out 14 batters.  All the support he needed was provided by Austin Kelley and his inside the park home run.

At weeks end the boys stand at 5-5 overall, and 3-3 in the conference.
