Student Safety
Posted 12/8/2010 at 3:59:07 PM by Dianna Foley [staff member]

Last Friday, one of our Kensington students reported a suspicious vehicle during dismissal and the police were notified. Although the police are still investigating last week’s report, it is an important reminder for all of us to be diligent regarding student safety.

Please review and reinforce these safety tips with your child:

•          Walk with someone at all times

•          Take the same route home; don’t take shortcuts

•          Make plans with your parents

(i.e, route, after school plans, communications, etc.)

•          Check first before changing any plans

•          Walk with confidence and awareness

•          If confronted by an unknown person, get away and report it

Below is a flyer with tips for going to and from school safely.

Please contact your child’s principal or the Rocky River Police at 331-1234 if you have any questions or need additional assistance.

District Policy On Addresses to Students
Posted 9/13/2010 at 4:35:02 PM by Michael Shoaf [staff member]
On September 14, 2010 at 1 PM, President Obama will deliver his second annual Back to School speech to students.

District Policy On Addresses to Students

An address to students (by President of the United States, Governor of Ohio, etc.) will be shared with students by implementing the following protocol.

  •  The address will be shown by all faculty members in real time.
  • Arrangements will be made by building principals to accommodate students who were unable to view it in real time (web site access, etc.).
  • An announcement will be posted on the website indicating that the address will be shown in real time, with accommodations made for those unable to view it in real time.
  •  Parents not wishing their student(s) to see the address may send a note to the principal and accommodations will be made for the student(s) during the address.
  •   Students not wishing to watch the address may respectfully read or do homework.
  • For all other presidential, governor, etc., addresses not specifically intended for students, world/local events, shuttle launches, elections, current events, etc. the district will maintain protocol already “in place,” that being that a teacher already exercises judgment on when and how to incorporate these issues/topics into his/her class.

Rocky River City School District Earns Excellent with Distinction on Report Card
Posted 9/8/2010 at 4:10:14 PM by Michael Shoaf [staff member]

I am so very pleased to share that the Rocky River City School District earned a perfect report card from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) for the 2009-2010 school year.  As a result of this perfect report card, the Ohio Department of Education rated the Rocky River City Schools as Excellent with Distinction, the highest possible rating.  This impressive rating is a meaningful measure of hard work by our students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members.  This high rating is also an indication that all of our students have an unwavering dedication and strong desire to perform at the highest academic level.

Additionally, the August 28th edition of The Plain Dealer newspaper listed Northeast Ohio schools’ performance based on report card ratings, with emphasis on Performance Index, as determined by ODE.  The Rocky River City Schools were tied for second overall with a Performance Index rating of 108.1.  We are pleased with our performance rating but are eager to make improvements in specific areas while continuing to seek positive gains in all measured areas.

Ratings and rankings of the school district by the Ohio Department of Education, the Plain Dealer, and the district’s fifth place ranking of Suburban Schools in the June edition of Cleveland Magazine are each signs that our students are achieving academic success.  Assuredly, the Rocky River City School District is proud of our students’ success during the 2009-2010 school year and we are eager to make positive advances for academic success by all st
udents during the 2010-2011 school year.

Thank you for supporting the Rocky River City School District.
