The Plank (Broadcasting)

Advisor:  Jennifer Garver

Who can join??
Any student grades 9-12 who is interested in TV production.  You do not have to be planning a college major in this field.

What is the club?
"The Plank" is a weekly TV show appearing on Cox Cable's Channel 45.  Shows are taped and edited at RRHS's studios.  Students work on either side of the camera.  Interviewers, with Mrs. Garver's assistance, line up and conduct on-air interviews of 9 to 13 minutes.  Other students run the cameras in the studio or work in the control room as director, sound control, or graphics computer operator.

When?
Shows are taped four times a year.  Two half-hour shows are taped each session.  Taping times are adjusted.

Why?
The club was formed to give students hands-on experience in TV production.  Many students who major in this field include "The Plank" in their resume and have reported this to be a factor in landing jobs in the broadcasting field.  Some college graduates have returned to say that they received more hands-on training in "The Plank" than at their respective colleges.

NOTE:  Students who wish additional training in the field of radio, TV, or advertising may wish to sign up for the semester broadcasting course entitled, appropriately, Broadcasting.
