My name is Jackie Sepich (soon to be Tarnai) and I am the newest addition to Goldwood's first grade teaching team! Though this is my first year as a first grade teacher, many of you may already know that this is not my first year at Goldwood. In 2008-2009, I did my student teaching in Cindy Bacon's first grade class! I am so privileged to have learned from Goldwood's finest and am proud to fill her shoes this year! In 2009-2010 I worked as a tutor in the Bear's Den which is Goldwood's enrichment center, and in 2010-2011 I was one of Goldwood's Intervention Specialists for kindergarten and first grade students.
I am an Ohio certified teacher with an undergraduate degree as an Intervention Specialist with a Mild/Moderate concentration. In the spring of 2011, I completed my Masters in Early Childhood Education as well. Both of my degrees are from Kent State University.
Last year, I had the privilege to train in a fantastic early intervention reading program called Leveled Literacy Intervention (or LLI). I have seen such great success from students since the I have incorporated the program into my lessons. I have also had the opportunity to work closely with professionals to enhance my education and experience, including legal council on IEP writing and implementation as well as behavior specialists. This past summer I attended training sessions on our school's adapted Everyday Math and Fundations programs and look forward to begin teaching in the classroom.
I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Goldwood team where the students always come first, will grow from their experiences, meaningful lessons, and the support which the staff and the Rocky River community always provides!
First grade is a memorable and fundamental one! Together we will make it successful. I am very excited to help your children grow and learn and to grow and learn from them as well. Please contact me anytime with any questions, comments or concerns!
